Dustin Watson is Canada’s latest World gold medallist following the 2022 World Archery Field Championships in Yankton, USA.
The U21 compound individual men’s gold-medal match was a nail-biter. Jevsnik (Slovenia) and Watson were tied after the first and second ends with 33 points, shooting on some very tricky target angles. The third end went to Jevsnik by 1 points and Watson tied up on the final end. With a one-arrow tiebreaker, both Jevsnik and Watson scored 5 points (out of a possible 6), but the Canadian’s arrow was closer, securing the win.
Watson was very happy with his result and was able to execute a solid shot for the win. Interviewed after the event, Dustin felt that it was a great learning experience to shoot against other top-seeded archers and he wants to come back to shoot more international events. He thanked his family, the team coach and his supportive teammates.
