Shane Bryson top in 2024 SNAS Nutrition Challenge

Congratulations to Shane Bryson, who topped all other students both adults and youth with an almost perfect score during our annual Nutrition Week Challenge.

All students in the advanced classes keep track of their food intake for one week in accordance with the Canada Food Guide, plus earn bonus points for reducing empty calories, fried food and caffeine.

Many of our students either improved or stayed the same score as in 2023 – very few did worse.

So, congratulations to all our students during National Nutrition Month and the annual SNAS Nutrition Challenge!

2024 Mail matches & House Leagues ended

SNAC had a much better post-COVID-19 turn-out for leagues this year and there were terrific scores shot both provincially and nationally.  The mail match results are posted on all 3 websites:  SNAC’s, Archery Ontario, and Archery Canada.

We hope to have a small celebration and awards ceremony in the late spring.  More details to follow.

Note:  With the end of leagues, Saturday mornings are now available for private lessons and general shooting indoors.

More about leagues and mail matches:

For those archers who want to test themselves a little more, but like the comfort of staying close to home in the winter time, house leagues and mail matches are events you should sign up for at South Nation Archery.

Starting on Saturday, January 06 and running until the end of March, from 9am until noon, you can participate in any or all of:

  • house leagues
  • provincial mail matches (membership required – sign up on-line)
  • national mail matches (membership required – sign up on-line)

All rounds are 30 arrows, shot at 18m.  We follow national rules for target face sizes and equipment divisions.

Cost per round:  $10.00

All registrants will be required to pre-pay session fees when they pre-register for beginner youth and/or adult classes.

IMPORTANT information to participants:

STUDENTS / PARENTS must pre-pay using our e-transfer information forwarded directly to your personal e-mail address supplied to us OR, with an active credit card number, expiry date and security code when registering for Friday night classes.

There will be no reminder telephone call. Please record the dates of your session and come to lesson #1 10-15 minutes early.

REFUND POLICY: There is no refund for classes. We endeavour to keep our class fees as low as possible so that families can afford to participate in the sport. Therefore, SOUTH NATION ARCHERY SUPPLY will not provide refunds for missed sessions and/or classes.

Part 2:

If you have signed up for multiple sessions, you are not required to pre-pay all sessions. SOUTH NATION ARCHERY SUPPLY realises that life changes and that pressing matters may arise which preclude your participation in the sessions you signed up for.

However, we must be advised in advance of your changed circumstances.

IMPORTANT information to participants:

In order to avoid credit card charges, returning STUDENTS / PARENTS must tell us they are cancelling all other pre-registrations NO LATER THAN the 6th week of Friday night classes in which they are currently registered.

There will be no reminder telephone call. Please record the dates of your session.

We regret to have to institute this policy. However, SOUTH NATION ARCHERY SUPPLY is dealing with more no-shows while turning away other interested students.

Thank you for your understanding and co-operation.

2023-2024 Parking Reminder for students & competitors

IMPORTANT message to class participants and league/tournament archers!

Please remember to park in our parking lot whenever possible.

DO NOT PARK on the south side of County Road 38.

If the parking lot is full, please park on the north side of the road only, and east of our lane way.

This notice is very important during the snow removal season; the OPP will have your car towed away if you are in the way of the snow-plough drivers.

Thank you for your co-operation.

2024 Ontario Winter Games – an archery first

South Nation Archery was represented well at the first indoor version of Ontario Games in Thunder Bay February 22-28, 2024.  Usually, archery has been in the summer games, but was switched into the winter for these games.

Serenity Last won her age category for both the 600 round and elimination day.  Congratulations, Serenity and keep up the good work!  Kathleen Millar was Eastern Zone Coach along with Garnett Last as Eastern Zone Manager.  Eastern Zone archers medalled in each division athletes were registered in.

Thank you to Archery Ontario for funding our training camp in January, and to Jess Watson in particular for all her work.

2024 Provincial 10-ring Championship Results

Thank you to our club members who shot the provincial championships on February 18, 19 and 21, 2024.  This 10-ring version of the championships was registered nationally and internationally for records and award pins.

Congratulations to Shawn Matheson and Travis Tyo for setting new provincial records (conditional).

This file link takes you to the results for all our club members, but the final results are supposed to be posted within 2-4 days of the last date when the championships could be held (February 25).

Our next registered tournament is coming up very quickly.  The national Regional Indoor Championships will be held at SNAC on Sunday, March 03.  If you have not pre-registered, please do so before Friday, March 01, 2024.  Thank you.

Kathleen Millar Eastern Zone Coach for Ontario Winter Games

Kathleen Millar, team coach, along with manager Garnett Last, will be supporting the Eastern Zone archery team to the 2024 Ontario Winter Games, February 22-26th, 2024.  The Games are taking place in Thunder Bay, ON.

This is the first time that archery has been assigned to the Winter Games, and therefore, archers will be shooting indoors at 18m. The team age categories, U21 and younger, include recurve and compound archers from across the zone.

Archers are looking forward to all the aspects of competition and Games.  There is a wide cross-section of archer experience and age on this team for males and females, from first-time major games participation to Pan Am youth championships.

While the Games are running, Kathleen Millar will not be available for private coaching from February 21 to 28, 2024.  In the meantime, for further information on private lessons, please contact South Nation Archery at 613-989-2943 and speak with Larry.

2024 Provincial Indoor IFAA Championships at SNAC

Thank you to our competitors and guests who joined us to shoot this championship on Sunday, January 28.  Attendance was a little smaller this year due to the fact that quite a few of our regular competitors were attending the Lancaster Archery Tournament in Pennsylvania.

That didn’t stop 2 of our members from setting unofficial provincial records for this round.

Travis Tyo in 21+ men’s hunter division shot a 300 with 46 5s

Shawn Matheson in 21+ Para Open Recurve shot 266 to break his own record.

Congratulations to Pam Leclair, who also shot a PB on this round.

Club results follow.  For full results, please consult the Archery Ontario website.

Class Cancellation Policy

SNAC’s class cancellation policy is available on the Policies page under “About Us”. This policy addresses SNAC’s protocol regarding cancelled classes due to inclement weather, anticipated poor weather conditions during class time, and coach illness.

SNAC recognizes the importance of regular classes, but puts the safety of athletes and those driving them to class first.

Please contact Kathy or Larry if you have any questions or concerns which are not addressed in this policy.
