August 24, 2024 SNAC Indoor AWARDS Celebration

We have had quite a few challenges getting all the medals and certificates for those of you who competed in tournaments and mail matches since last May (understatement!).  Thank you to everyone who was able to drop by to celebrate with us.

This year, we presented house league medals, ON mail match certificates, ON indoor champ medals, and AC medals for mail matches and the Regional Indoor Championship.

We realise that some of you may be on vacation or cannot join us on that day.  We will keep your awards, if any, until you can drop in.

Even if you shot tournaments as a guest, we are celebrating your participation, too.

If you were not able to be with us and you earned a medal/certificate, you can drop by our shop during normal business hours to pick up your awards.

Use these links for house league results and ON mail match results.

Millar to judge at 2024 National Target and Field Championships

Kathleen Millar will be joining other national judges to volunteer at Archery Canada’s national field/target championships in Fredericton, NB during the first weeks of August.

Competing at these championships will be SNAC members:  Serenity Last, Connie Siedule and Garnett Last.  Best wishes for good shooting and good weather!

Kathleen will not be available for private lessons throughout August.  For immediate assistance contact Larry Smith at 613-989-2943 during normal business hours.

Shane Bryson top in 2024 SNAS Nutrition Challenge

Congratulations to Shane Bryson, who topped all other students both adults and youth with an almost perfect score during our annual Nutrition Week Challenge.

All students in the advanced classes keep track of their food intake for one week in accordance with the Canada Food Guide, plus earn bonus points for reducing empty calories, fried food and caffeine.

Many of our students either improved or stayed the same score as in 2023 – very few did worse.

So, congratulations to all our students during National Nutrition Month and the annual SNAS Nutrition Challenge!

2024 Ontario Winter Games – an archery first

South Nation Archery was represented well at the first indoor version of Ontario Games in Thunder Bay February 22-28, 2024.  Usually, archery has been in the summer games, but was switched into the winter for these games.

Serenity Last won her age category for both the 600 round and elimination day.  Congratulations, Serenity and keep up the good work!  Kathleen Millar was Eastern Zone Coach along with Garnett Last as Eastern Zone Manager.  Eastern Zone archers medalled in each division athletes were registered in.

Thank you to Archery Ontario for funding our training camp in January, and to Jess Watson in particular for all her work.

Kathleen Millar Eastern Zone Coach for Ontario Winter Games

Kathleen Millar, team coach, along with manager Garnett Last, will be supporting the Eastern Zone archery team to the 2024 Ontario Winter Games, February 22-26th, 2024.  The Games are taking place in Thunder Bay, ON.

This is the first time that archery has been assigned to the Winter Games, and therefore, archers will be shooting indoors at 18m. The team age categories, U21 and younger, include recurve and compound archers from across the zone.

Archers are looking forward to all the aspects of competition and Games.  There is a wide cross-section of archer experience and age on this team for males and females, from first-time major games participation to Pan Am youth championships.

While the Games are running, Kathleen Millar will not be available for private coaching from February 21 to 28, 2024.  In the meantime, for further information on private lessons, please contact South Nation Archery at 613-989-2943 and speak with Larry.

2023 Nutrition Challenge Well Done

Our SNAC advanced classes took on the annual March Nutrition Month Challenge to chart healthy eating for 1 week.  99% of our students participated – well done!

Rian Chicoine remains our nutrition champion for another year, with Pam Leclair only 10 points behind him.  Congratulations, Rian and all our participants.

Remember that a balanced diet with good hydration and fewer “hollow calories” can help archery performance as well as overall health.  Combined with good sleeping habits, you can feel better and have more energy.  Take the nutrition challenge on your own – Kathleen Millar can send you a score sheet upon request.

Millar Coaches at 2019 World Team Training Camp

In preparation for the National Compound Archery Team’s participation in The Netherlands in June, Kathleen Millar (women’s coach) and Sean McKenty (head coach) lead a national team training camp hosted by Sean and Fiona in the Windsor area on May 13-14, 2019.

All women team members will be present for the registered tournaments and simulations.  For the men’s team, everyone  except for Brendan von Richter from Victoria will be present.

The men’s team of Brendan, Robbie Nott and Austin Taylor reprises the team that Kathleen led during the 2018 World Cup at Salt Lake City.  The women’s team sees the return of Fiona McClean and Fiona Maude, along with Katie Roth.  It will be a solid, experienced team.
